A Work of Art & an Artist at Work

Monday Morning Commentary

To conclude our October series “Go + Be: Work”, Pastor Craig brought us a message A Work of Art and An Artist at Work.

Work was created by God for us to express who God made us to be. The curse made work the enemy, while God’s intention is for it to be the blessing. This begs the question? What did God create us to be? Could our “Go + Be: Work” be part of God’s solution for our world?

We are created to bear the image of God. The problem: humans are the only species that can live outside of the intention for which they were created. Animals do what animals do. Humans on the other hand have a choice. This is why faith is necessary for us and why we cannot please God without it. Faith empowers us to continually make the choices necessary to live out the fullness of our humanity.

The fullness of our humanity- it is expressed in our ability to create. Animals keep repeating the cycle of waking, eating, sleeping, and reproducing. Humans engage in these processes all the while continuing to develop the world in new ways. The future and the world we see around was created by the imagination of those before us. The world of the future will be created by us. The future is not something that will come on us from out of nowhere. It comes from a specific place within.

We are designed to create and build the future just as God created and built us. We are God’s masterpiece designed to do good works. If we do not take up the responsibility of building the world around us, someone else will. A decision not to act is also a decision about the future: allow things to decay.

How did God create everything that is visible? He used his mind. It is by faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what is visible. The invisible creates the visible.

You were imagined to imagine created to create.

You are both a work of art + an artist at work.

The future is waiting for the person with the courage to create it.

You are a manifestation of the imagination of God.

This week reflect:

• Where does my faith need to be refreshed and grow?

• What future has God designed me to create?
